Our company, located in the beautiful and historic town of Freistadt, Austria, specializes in purchase and selling of high quality mineral specimens from all localities of the world. After years of experience as sole trader and joint partner of Watzl Minerals, Rudolf Watzl started his own enterprise in early 2013 to advance his own notion of trading fine and rare minerals for ambitious collectors.
Rudolf grew up in a mineral collecting family and got captivated by the beauty of minerals at an early age. Especially the truly outstanding Alpine Mineral Collection of his father Anton Watzl Sen. (also an renowned minerals photographer!) posed an ideal and encouragement for further development. Rudolfs first collection mainly consisted of self-collected specimens from the Austrian Alp, great iron roses to be some of its most striking. To this day it grew to a impressive collection of finest minerals from the worlds best localities.

Featured Item: Aquamarine

Location: Shigar Valley, Skardu District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
Size: 4.2 x 2.5 x 1.4 cm
Item #: HK174
Comments: While dealing in minerals we can see many new specimens arriving, many of which are beautiful and aesthetic. But when it comes to sheer quality and crystal architecture I have rarely seen anything like this aquamarine from Shigar Valley. It is an absolutely gorgeous single crystal aquamarine that is completely gemmy with uttermost brilliance! Most striking however is the breathtaking sharp and complex “diamond cut” termination which is extremely rare, especially as it is highly lustrous and brilliant as well! Have a look on our video which grants a wonderful look on the multi-faceted polyhedral termination and the fantastic light-reflecting luster. The aquamarine is in flawless condition, super gemmy and has intensive blue color!

Fine mineral specimens, gem crystals, worldwide classics, new finds, and rare species for the collector.

Featured Item: Azurite

Location: Bisbee, Warren District, Cochise Co., Arizona
Size: Overall Size: 5 x 3.6 cm

Comments: This specimen is essentially a floater with no notable point of attachment. Lustrous from all sides and an incredibly attractive grouping of roses without damage to any faces, some of them exhibiting perfect diamond shape. An impressive and showy azurite cluster.

Fine minerals have been the focus of Spanish Minerals since 2003. As our company name suggests, we are specialists in fine mineral specimens from Spain. However, we deal in worldwide fine minerals as well. After all these years, we are proud of having among our customers important Natural History museums, some of the best international mineral dealers and well known private natural art collectors all over the world.
Our company principals have two generations of experience in collecting, dealing, and appraising fine mineral specimens found in Spain and overseas. Apart from offering some of the world’s best fine mineral specimens to the natural art collector, the company is proud to continue its support to one of the best private mineral collections of Spain, the Fernandez Buelga Natural Art Collection.

Our selection of fine minerals
The selection of our fine mineral specimens is principally based on aesthetics, with parameters like color, balance or crystal quality of paramount importance for us. Secondly, because we can not hide our scientific background, we very much enjoy offering to our customers rare localities, weird crystallizations and other mineralogical oddities. But our eyes are always looking for the highest beauty.

As mineral collecting moves from an uncommon hobby to an emerging cultural asset class, Spanish Minerals commits to offer our clients, not only fine mineral specimens, but also professional advice for the novice as well as the experienced natural art collector.

Featured Item: Fluorite

Location: Spain
Size: 4.7 × 4.2 × 2.6 cm
Item #: 50634
Comments: This is a choice yellow fluorite cluster with a fantastic honey color. Microscopic chipping and some wear (maybe natural) in one fluorite edge. In my opinion, it is in good overall condition keeping in mind the importance and rarity of such large fluorite crystals for this locality. Largest crystal is 2.4 cm or nearly one inch!

The Sunnywood Collection

The notion of mounted minerals began in the fall of 1984 when Bill and Elsie Stone, owners of the Sunnywood Collection wanted to display several large specimens from their mineral collection in the living room. The specimens were large enough that they might damage the furniture. They decided to construct a custom base out of hardwood to hold the specimens in a stable but artistic position. From the first mounted specimens came The Sunnywood Collection, providing museum quality mineral and fossil specimens from world-wide localities and carvings from Brazil. All specimens from The Sunnywood Collection are mounted on either exotic or domestic hardwoods or acrylic bases.

Trinity Mineral Co.

In the past several years I have seen too many new dealers enter the market who know little to nothing about crystallography, petrology, chemistry or any of the basic fundamentals of mineralogy. At shows more than half the dealers simply put rocks out on a table or shelf with no pricing, no identification, or locality information. I have seen other dealers continue to push specimens to seemingly arbitrary pricing levels with the belief that there is always someone out there who will think that a high price is equal to high quality. This is an unhealthy trend in this hobby and one that needs to be addressed in some way by the mineral collecting community.I have been a mineral collector since the mid 1970s and have seen the pricing for minerals expand at a rate that is unsupportable over the long term. My basic philosophy for pricing specimens is to ensure that when you open the box you feel as though you have received value for your purchase.
